Yaz (Yasuyo) Uemura May is a multidisciplinary artist and hairstylist. After many years working as a hairstylist and band collaborator, she expanded her practice into conceptual sound and body movement, creating sound for performances at Berlin Fashion & Art Week in 2023. Since encountering Butoh, Yaz has continued to explore and cultivate her embodied awareness and artistic language through performance. In recent years, she has developed her own performance pieces, both collaboratively and as solo works. She continues to evolve her creative expression.
SLT SPACE is a branch of Studio Levi dedicated to making performance and film sets safer, diverse and more inclusive. Through SLT SPACE, we represent the underrepresented, showcase multidisciplinary artists, amplify diverse voices and create safe spaces in front of and behind the camera.
